Solar Thermal Systems
Use the sun's energy to heat your water. Solar thermal systems can provide up to 60% of a household's annual hot water demand from free, renewable energy.
How Does Solar Thermal Work?
Solar thermal systems use roof-mounted collectors to capture heat from the sun and transfer it to your domestic hot water cylinder via a heat exchanger. Unlike solar PV, which generates electricity, solar thermal is dedicated to heating water — making it one of the most efficient ways to use solar energy.
A well-designed solar thermal system can contribute 50–60% of a household's annual hot water needs, with the highest contribution in summer and a useful top-up in winter. Your existing boiler or heat pump provides the balance, so you always have hot water on demand.
N.R Ewart installs both flat-plate and evacuated-tube collector systems, selecting the most appropriate technology for your roof, hot water demand, and budget. All installations are MCS-certified and eligible for applicable renewable energy incentives.
What We Offer
Collector Selection & Sizing
We assess your hot water demand, roof orientation, and available area to specify the correct collector type and size for maximum annual yield.
Flat-Plate Collector Installation
Flat-plate collectors offer excellent value and blend well with roof profiles. We install them in-roof or on-roof depending on your preference and roof construction.
Evacuated-Tube Systems
Evacuated-tube collectors achieve higher temperatures and perform better in diffuse light conditions, making them well-suited to Scotland's climate.
Twin-Coil Cylinder Supply & Fit
We supply and install twin-coil unvented cylinders designed for solar thermal, with a dedicated solar coil at the base and a boiler or heat pump coil above.
System Integration
We integrate the solar thermal system with your existing boiler, heat pump, or immersion heater, ensuring seamless operation and automatic top-up when solar input is insufficient.
MCS Certification & Aftercare
All systems are MCS-certified and come with a commissioning certificate. We offer annual servicing to keep the system performing at its best.
